NEWPORT County FC will be holding an anti-racism event today for Newport pupils.

The event, at Rodney Parade, will be held in connection with Show Racism the Red Card campaign, a campaign where footballers educate others about racism. Newport County player Ismail Yakubu will be attending the event, leading educational workshops, where pupils from Maindee Primary School and Lliswerry Primary School will be involved with interactive activities, exploring the consequences of racism and what is defined as racism.

Teachers will also be engaged in learning how to utilize resources to tackle racism.

During the event, pupils will take on the role of media journalists and will have the opportunity to make up their own newspaper or column. They will then have time to design questions on racism in sport to put forward to a guest panel.

Folloing the event, as a classroom task, pupils will be writing their article for their designed newspaper or column using the answers from the column and any photos or drawings they wish to include. Prizes will also be given to those pupils who ask the best questions or design and write the best articles.
