A NEWPORT teenager has brought some much-needed Christmas cheer to users of a day centre for the homeless by handing out stockings filled with gifts.

Jymeela Lewis, 14, was unable to go on a trip to the panto with her grandmother and instead used the money to buy

30 pairs of socks and fill them with gifts such toiletries, razors and sweets for those who use the Olive Branch Day Centre on Stow Hill in Newport.

The centre’s manager, Alison Beard praised the teenager. She said: “Jymeela has such a beautiful heart to want to give her Christmas money to help others.”

“It was really moving. She brought the biggest smiles and lots of laughter to those who received a stocking.

The centre is run by volunteers and offers a café provision that offers free food and drink, a shower and a locker to store treasured items for those who are homeless or vulnerably housed, as well as an advocacy and support service. It is open five days a week and is part of Bethel Community Church.
