Police officially name the 20 year old man who died after the incident,on the grounds of the Celtic Manor Resort at a lake on the Twenty Ten Course as Oliver Floyd from the Ross-on-Wye area.

His family have issued the attached photograph of Oliver and this statement: "“A big thank you to the ground staff at the Celtic Manor Resort and the overwhelming support from friends.”

The firm which employed Ollie Floyd told of their "great regret" at the death of their worker yesterday.

A spokesman said: "The incident is clearly subject to an on-going investigation which Complete Weed Control and Celtic Manor are co-operating with fully. Our thoughts are with the family at this extremely sad and very difficult time. A further statement will be issued in due course.”

INQUIRIES are ongoing after a 20-year-old groundsman died at the Celtic Manor Resort golf course yesterday.

The man, named locally as contractor Ollie Floyd, of Ross on Wye, died after the agricultural sprayer he was in rolled into a lake at the Celtic Manor yesterday morning.

Both Gwent Police and Newport City Council’s health and safety team are carrying out inquiries.

In a statement, the resort said: “The Celtic Manor Resort is deeply saddened to confirm that a fatal accident took place on its Twenty Ten Course at around 7.50am on Tuesday, March 3.

“The incident is subject to an ongoing investigation which the Celtic Manor Resort is co-operating with fully.

“The Resort is unable to comment further at this stage. Our thoughts are with the family at this very difficult time.”

Mr Floyd was a player with Ross on Wye rugby club. In a statement on their Facebook page the club said: “It's with great sadness that I have to inform you that Ollie Floyd was killed in a tragic accident this morning. On your behalf I would like to offer our condolences to Haley, Nick, Tom and all members of the family. A great friend and clubman to us all. RIP my friend. Always a legend never will be forgotten."

Tributes were also paid to Mr Floyd on Twitter yesterday.

Chance Ridler said: “Gutted to say the least, doesn't seem real! Ollie Floyd, you will be missed brother! My thoughts are with your family."

Billy Burns said: “In shock hearing news of Ollie Floyd tragically passing away, from the little I knew of him he was a top bloke. Thoughts with his family.”
