A CWMBRAN Primary School was broken into at the weekend and over £1,000 worth of damage caused.

Gwent Police were alerted to the incident on Monday, June 29, when staff returned to Coed Eva Junior and Infant School after the weekend.

Head teacher at the school, Gill Ellis, said: “Unfortunately, we returned to school after the weekend to see that our Forest school site within our grounds had been damaged. The fencing had been trashed around it and will cost over £1000 to replace.

“It’s really disappointing to come into school to find this damage, especially when the children look forward to using it so much every day as part of our curriculum.”

She said that pupils have been really upset over the vandalism as they have been part of the design and creation of the forest school site.

She added: “They were horrified to find beer cans and rubbish around the site. It's such a pity."

Gwent Police confirmed that the school was broken into and damage had been caused.

A spokeswoman said that anyone with information is asked to call 101 and quote log number 96 30/06/2015
