REHEARSALS are underway for a play that will commemorate 50 years since the dismantling of the Crumlin Viaduct.

The Crumlin Viaduct was a railway viaduct across the Ebbw River and connected the port of Newport to Hereford via Abergavenny.

It was used for 109 years and was hailed as the third highest viaduct in the world before it was dismantled in 1967.

Written by June Watkins, the comedy drama, Bridge of Dreams, is set to take place on September 5 at Newbridge Memo.

The synoposis for the piece states: “In 1965 Wales stood on the brink of a new era. A girl and her mother stood to realise their most precious dreams.

“A father stood to lose all that defined him as a man. And two of the World’s Greatest Film Stars stood on the Crumlin Viaduct.”

Doors open at 7pm for the performance that starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are £7 and £6 for concessions.
