A WOMAN who repeatedly harassed her ex by turning up outside his place and threatening to slit her own throat has been jailed.

Hannah Sargent, 29, shouted abuse and tapped on the window of the property for days on end, a court heard.

On one occasion, she stood outside the address and said: “I will slit my throat in front of you”, Newport Crown Court heard.

Defence barrister, Caroline Rees, said that her client was "heavily scarred by self harm".

The pair had previously been together but separated, said Tom Roberts, for the prosecution.

Mr Roberts said she had repeatedly gone to the Newport address between July 27 and 30.

Sargent, of Clytha Square, Newport, pleaded guilty to harassment.

She had been given a 16-month suspended jail term for a burglary in Newport days before the harassment.

Sargent admitted being in breach of the jail sentence, which was suspended for two years.

Newport Judge Patrick Curran, QC, jailed her for two months for the harassment and activated the suspended jail term.

Sargent appeared before Newport Crown Court via video link from Eastwood Park Prison in Gloucestershire.

Ms Rees said that her client had not instructed her to give any mitigation, but stressed she did not enjoy good mental health.

She added that Sargent had a “positive experience” of custody and benefited from the attention she was getting there.

Sargent will have to serve about half her 18-month sentence before she is released on licence.
