NEWPORT East's MP took a trip to a major brewery in her constituency to learn about how they make their products yesterday.

Jessica Morden visited ABInbev’s Magor Brewery and undertook a tour with staff before she got chance to taste some of its beer for herself as part of a tasting panel.

She visited the brewery, which makes favourites including Budweiser and Stella Artois, as part of a nationwide scheme organised by the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group to encourage MPs to visit breweries in their constituency.

Ms Morden said: “I’m a regular visitor to ABInbev in Magor but today was a great opportunity to learn more about the whole brewing process. The brewery is a big local employer and it’s great to see the site growing and meet the staff.”

Built in 1979, the brewery is AB InBev’s largest in the UK, employs 290 people and covers 50 acres.

Running at full capacity it can produce the equivalent of 792 million pints of booze.

The brewery’s manager Tony Monteiro said: “We were pleased to welcome Jessica to the brewery to give her an insight into the art of brewing. It is always good to see your MP backing the brewing sector, which is an important source of jobs in the Magor area.”
