POLICE are investigating after a wheelchair user fell to the floor during an alleged assault outside a pub in Newport City Centre last night. 

The woman believed to be in her fifties was taken to Royal Gwent Hospital following the incident near the Pen and Wig in Stow Hill after 9pm. 

A bystander told the Argus how she still lying on the floor in her wheelchair and looked unconscious after the incident. 

Police later spoke to the woman at the Royal Gwent A&E department.

No arrests have been made.

Police said they had received a report the woman had come out of her wheelchair as a result of a possible assault. 

They are looking at examining CCTV from the area. 

Chief Insp Michael Moyles said today: “There has been an initial investigation and enquiries are continuing.”

The Welsh Ambulance Service confirmed that a woman had been taken to hospital after being found collapsed in her wheelchair near the pub.
