THE finishing touches will be made at Friars Walk bus station in the next few days.

The bus station at the long-awaited development was originally due to open on November 15 but was pushed back as it was not complete.

Developers Queensberry said earlier this month they were working with their main contractor to get the bus station finished and opened at the end of the month.

Martin Tresidder, operations director for Queensberry Real Estate, said on Friday that the work will be completed within the next few days.

He said: "Our contractor Bowmer and Kirkland has essentially completed the bus station, over the next few days they will be completing some very few minor items. The bus station will remain fenced for safety reasons until it opens.

"The ticket hall has been completed and the bus operators are preparing for opening. We are very much looking forward to the opening of the bus station."

No date for the opening of the station has been confirmed.

Newport city council said they were awaiting a formal handover date for the new bus station from the developers and would issue a formal opening date when it was able to.

Newport Bus said they have not been informed of an opening date by Newport council.

The new bus station will have 15 bays - 10 bays provided for Newport Transport, one for National Express, three for Stagecoach and one for NAT (New Adventure Travel).

Newport Bus also has stands at Market Square.
