A NEWPORT student will be jumping 12,000 feet out of a plane for charity as part of her Miss Wales contestant fundraising.

Georgia Phasey, 17, who goes to St Joseph's High School, will be doing a skydive for charity on Saturday, February 20 in Swansea.

The teenager, who hopes to study for a law degree after sixth form, is part of a team of three young women representing Newport in the final of the beauty pageant.

She was interviewed at the Marriott hotel in Cardiff for the chance to be a finalist and now must raise funds for Beauty with a Purpose - a charity which helps disadvantaged children.

She said: "I don't think Miss Wales is about being crowned winner. It's the journey, making lots of friends and building confidence and self-esteem.

"It's really about being role models, literally anybody could be it."

So far year 13 pupil Ms Phasey has raised £970 but hopes to raise more through fundraising for the skydive.

She said: "I'm absolutely petrified but I'm trying not to think about it. I will think of it on the way up in the plane."
