TICKETS for a one-off Paolo Nutini gig in Newport in aid of a teenager who pleaded with him to play at his mother's funeral sold out in 10 minutes today.

Earlier this week Paolo Nutini announced his only UK show this year at the 2,000 capacity Newport Centre for Bevlee Jones and in aid of her 13-year-old son Ieuan Joel.

Ms Jones, “who loved everything” about the Scottish performer, died suddenly at the age of just 34 on March 8 after going to bed the previous night.

In a poignant plea on the Last Request singer’s Facebook page following her death, her son, Ieuan wrote: “I was wondering if you could play at my mum’s funeral as she loved you.

"You were her idol. She was only 34 and she left and I’m 13. Please could you play at her funeral?”

The singer had been unable to make the funeral, as he was in Italy at the time, but phoned Ieuan to give him his condolences on the day of the service.

Mr Nutini said he wanted to help Ieuan in any way he could and felt a concert in aid of Ieuan and in memory of his mother was the right way to do so.

Tickets for the special show sold out in minutes today after they went on sale at 9am and fans of the pop singer from Wales and beyond have generously shown their support for Ieuan.

Many who were unable to secure tickets have expressed a desire to help the family further, and so a donation page has been set up for people to add to the trust fund set up to help the 13-year-old in the years ahead. They are trying to raise £10,000 for the St Julians teenager.

Ieuan’s family have been overwhelmed with the support shown to them from the people of Newport and beyond.

Ieuan’s grandmother Carol Davies said: “All I can do is thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for helping my daughter and her son. Bevlee would have been so proud. The concert will be a chance for those who knew Bevlee to remember her and celebrate her life.”
