A NEWPORT man is in an induced coma after falling from a first floor balcony in Magaluf.

Andrew Phillips, aged 25, from Brynglas, was on holiday with his friends when he fell from the hotel balcony at around 7.30pm on Wednesday.

He was taken to Son Espases Hospital in the Majorcan capital Palma where he is currently in an induced coma due to a bleed on the brain.

His mother Joanne Phillips, 45, said he is in serious but not life-threatening condition. His father Peter Davies, 45, flew out yesterday to be at the hospital.

She said yesterday: “We don’t know what exactly the situation is. His dad is flying out this afternoon.

“He’s in an induced coma and has multiple fractures. It’s his head and face - his body is fine.”

She added: “He [Andrew] flew out there yesterday morning. I don’t think he had even been there 10 hours.”

“He’d gone for a couple of days for a boys holiday and ended up over the balcony – he landed on the grass.”

“As soon as it happened his friend phoned his dad who phoned me. I was in shock with it all. It’s not something you expect to hear.”

She said doctors are monitoring the pressure on her son’s brain and it is 'looking positive.'

Mr Phillips, a brick layer, is a father to five-year-old Rylee.
