AN inquest has been opened into the death of Argoed man Alex Chamberlain, who died following a three-vehicle crash on the A467 earlier this month.

Senior coroner for Gwent David Bowen was told that the 26-year-old, an electrician, died of multiple injuries following the crash, which happened shortly after 9am on Monday May 16.

A post mortem examination revealed the extent of his injuries, following the incident on the southbound Rogerstone section of the dual carriageway.

The crash, which involved a van, a 40-tonne goods lorry, and a tipper lorry, closed the A467 in both directions for several hours.

Mr Chamberlain had been airlifted from the scene by air ambulance and taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, where he was pronounced dead later that morning.

Gwent Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash, and Mr Bowen adjourned the inquest for two months while the investigation is completed.

He formally released Mr Chamberlain's body to his family for funeral purposes.
