RUSSELL Carter was arrested at Newport railway station after police had surrounded his house in Cardiff.
* Carter flees the scene in his car and is spotted by Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras leaving the M4 at the Coldra roundabout at around 1.30pm.
*He was subsequently caught on CCTV at Tesco in St Mellons, topless under his jacket, where he bought a shirt, trousers and shoes.
* Carter drove home to Cardiff, where he picked up his daughter and wife and went to Leckwith, where he brought his daughter a toy before going to Asda.
* Gwent Police and South Wales Police set up a joint operation and South Wales officers surround Carter’s home, only to find it is empty.
* Instinct led police to believe Carter may try to use the trains to escape and they secured access to CCTV at Newport station.
* Firearms officers were deployed and Carter was arrested at 8.40pm.
