Sixty National Youth Theatre Wales members showed their skills both in acting and design this summer.

In a wonderful display of energy and discipline, the 16-21 year olds performed the story of the last century, looking at Welsh and world history.

Both the acting and the singing were impeccable.

In ensemble work the group moved as one, and their voices created astonishing tempo and echoes with the repetition of key words.

Individual performances, however, were harder to find – the play was designed to keep everyone included. However, there were highlights, such as the suffragettes being forced to eat and a family’s reaction to the Aberfan disaster.

With a highly informative text-based performance, there was a great sense of connection between crowd and actors, although some may desire a more intimate encounter Sometimes too much information was presented and it became overwhelming.

However, to condense the last 100 years was always going to be difficult, and the group definitely pleased the audience.
