WARREN Gatland has revealed that Newport Gwent Dragons teenager Tyler Morgan would have been included in the Wales squad for the autumn internationals were it not for a knee injury.

The Wales boss has named a 34-strong squad for the November Tests against Australia, Fiji, New Zealand and South Africa.

He included three Dragons – number eight Taulupe Faletau and wing/full-backs Hallam Amos and Tom Prydie – and would have plumped for another had centre/wing Morgan not suffered a knee injury.

The 19-year-old from Caerleon is closing in on a return to action after five weeks on the sidelines following a blow sustained against the Ospreys in week two of the Guinness Pro12.

Morgan caught the eye at the end of last season with some dazzling displays for the Dragons and continued his fine form with Wales Under-20s at the Junior World Championship.

And Gatland could well call him up to train with the seniors at their Vale of Glamorgan headquarters next month to experience life in a Test camp.

If that happens he will join Dragons teammates Amos and Prydie, who are looking to put the heat on Leigh Halfpenny, George North, Alex Cuthbert and Liam Williams.

Amos, who won his only cap against Tonga last autumn, is included after missing the summer tour to South Africa because of shoulder surgery.

Prydie, who won the last of his five caps against Japan in the summer of 2013, gets another chance to impress Gatland and his coaches after being hindered by injuries.

He was forced to pull out of the last autumn squad because of a hamstring strain while he missed out on the Probables versus Possibles trial at the end of last season because of quad injury.

“It’s good that Tom is back playing,” said Gatland. “He moved into centre a couple of times recently (for the Dragons) and has done a really good job defensively and is playing with a little bit of confidence.

“We’ve invested time in Hallam and see him as a player of the future. He is a young player that we want to stick with, he is doing his medical studies so there’s a bit of a balancing act.

“We would have included Tyler Morgan in the squad if he was fit as well and there are a few youngsters that we want to continue to work with and develop. Hallam is one of those who is a long-term prospect.”
