NEWPORT County hope to complete the signing of Swindon striker Miles Storey in time for him to feature against Shrewsbury on Saturday.

The Exiles revealed yesterday that they were in advanced talks with a League One striker and Storey, linked this month with moves to Northampton Town and St Mirren, is the key target for boss Justin Edinburgh.

It is understood that the deal, which will see the 21-year old, who has also had a spell at Portsmouth, join on an initial one month loan, will be completed tomorrow morning. Storey will wear number 20 for his new club.

Boss Edinburgh admitted earlier this week that he’s currently not entirely happy with his striking options.

“With Robbie (Willmott) coming back and Regan staying on loan, I'm happy with the number of defenders but we would like an extra striker,” Edinburgh told the Argus.

“We’ve had Danny Crow and Christian Jolley leave and we feel we need more options at the top end of the pitch and needed to look at that.

“We needed to freshen things up in terms of the attack, I think we’ve got to understand where we are at.

“Chris Zebroski works tirelessly for us and is fantastic.

“But we also have Rene (Howe) coming back from a long term injury and he’s still well short of match fitness and Aaron (O’Connor) is always going to have these little lulls due to missing so much football last year and certainly he knows, as we know, that his suspension came at just the wrong time for him. He was right back on it and hasn’t picked up that form again.

“Barring Zeb, the others have missed some football and aren’t at full throttle.

“Joe Parker is someone to stretch teams from the bench and we felt like we needed someone to give us extra competition in that top area.”

Edinburgh is also expecting Fulham to confirm the signing of 16-year old Regan Poole before Monday’s transfer deadline, but is delighted the teen will remain at Rodney Parade on loan.

“It’s a help to him and to us, it goes hand-in-hand. For Fulham, they will end up with a player who is 16 who is in double figures for Football League appearances and it’s only going to enhance his progression,” he said.

“They have seen his progression in the short time they have been tracking him. I think the boy is going to learn far more with us, a team chasing promotion, than he is playing development football. Within the next couple of days, that’ll probably be done.

“We are progressing players to go onto bigger and better things, but because he’s so young, he’s still best off with us. It was something I pushed for and it is the right option and means we don’t leave ourselves short in that defensive area. So it is a real boost for us.”
