FORMER fans’ favourite Sam Foley believes Newport County AFC will be the perfect place for new signings Nathan Ralph and Seth Nana Twumasi to kick-start their careers.

The pair were both released by Yeovil Town last month as Foley turned down a new deal with the Glovers in favour of a two-year contract at League One Port Vale.

Both Ralph, a 22-year-old left-back or left winger, and Twumasi, a 25-year-old right-back or right midfielder, have suffered more than their fair share of injuries in the past few years.

That hampered their progress with Yeovil who have endured successive relegations in the past two seasons following their promotion to the Championship in 2013.

But Foley, who left the Exiles for Yeovil in 2012, says the pair will relish a fresh start at Rodney Parade and he chance to become first team regulars.

“They are both really hard workers but they’ve both been really unlucky with injuries,” said Foley, a key man as County won promotion to the Conference as champions in 2010.

“Nathan is a good player with lots of potential and given the chance to play regularly he will be a totally different player.

“He’s suffered a bit from being so versatile and if he gets a run at left-back he will be very solid for County.”

And Foley predicts that Ghana-born Twumasi will be popular with the supporters.

“Seth is strong and physical and he’s honest,” he said. “He’ll put his body on the line for the club and really fight for the cause.

“He has been hampered by injuries as well as he had a nasty knee injury a few years back but if you can get him playing regularly then anything is possible with Seth.

“He is at home in lots of positions and I’m sure he’ll be a really popular member of the squad.”

The ex-Yeovil pair were signed on Thursday along with winger Medy Elito from Dutch club VVV Venlo – taking Terry Butcher’s total number of signings to eight this summer.

And with 15 players leaving the club since the end of the season it is a completely different club to the one Foley left just three years ago – straight after the FA Trophy final defeat at Wembley.

“I think Andrew Hughes is pretty much the only one left from my time,” said Foley.

“It will be strange for him in pre-season because he won’t know most of the squad but football moves on quickly and it could be a good thing for the club.”
