TEENAGE winger Lloyd Lewis has already scored a stunning solo try at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park and now he aims to repeat the trick in his bid to catch the eye with Newport Gwent Dragons at the Singha Premiership 7s.

The 18-year-old from Croesyceiliog has earned a senior deal with the Rodney Parade side after impressing with Cross Keys in the Premiership last season and on Wales duty at the World Rugby U20 Championship.

Lewis ran in five tries in 10 appearances for the Pandy Park club, including an incredible weaving, searing effort from inside his own half on debut against Cardiff, and went on to represent his country in Italy, crossing the whitewash against Australia.

He is now set to be part of a Dragons squad looking to go one step further in the Singha Premiership 7s, which kicks off at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park on Saturday, August 15.

Last summer the Dragons progressed to finals night at the Twickenham Stoop and were only stopped by Gloucester Rugby, who lifted the title for the second year running.

A number of young guns impressed and winger Lewis knows this is his chance to impress the management team, who will again be watching closely while Ebbw Vale coach and sevens specialist Nick Wakley takes the reins.

"It's a good opportunity for academy boys to get their name out there and put in some good performances and they all add up and are building blocks to the final product," he said.

"I put the pressure in the back of my mind. I haven't played on the bigger stages though, except for the U20 World Championship.

"There is a bit more pressure because you do know you are being watched and it's a high-profile occasion but it's just another game at the end of the day. We just go out there and get our heads down and do our jobs.

"As a winger sevens interests me a lot and I am really looking forward to the experience.

"I watched last year and I thought that it was something I wanted to be involved with in the future. They did really well last year and we will be trying to replicate that and go one step further this year.

"It is good that some of the players have had the experience of getting as far as they did last year and that could be useful."

Lewis and his fellow burgeoning backs have plenty of inspiration at the Dragons' Ystrad Mynach training base in the form of another young trio.

Hallam Amos, Tyler Morgan and Jack Dixon have all become key figures and their club form has been rewarded with selection for Wales' World Cup training squad.

Lewis said: "It's a good setup at the Dragons when you are in the academy and it takes you all the way through and I think there is a good conversion to the first team.

"There's a few in the squad now who came through and you just need to look at the team sheet to see that.

"With the coverage and the crowd for this competition, it is all new experiences that shape you as a player which are priceless and I think it will be a really good day."

After kicking off in Wales the Singha Premiership Rugby 7s will continue at Gloucester Rugby on August 20, the Ricoh Arena on August 21 and Kingston Park on August 22, with the final taking place on August 28 at the Twickenham Stoop.
