NEWPORT County AFC have announced their first signing of transfer deadline day - a loan deal for Newcastle United defender Kyle Cameron.

A statement from the club reads: "Newport County AFC are delighted to announce the loan signing of nineteen-year-old defender Kyle Cameron, who joins the Exiles from Championship side Newcastle United.

"The 6'3" defender will add to manager Warren Feeney's defensive options, as the youngster arrives in South Wales on a loan deal until January.

"The left-sided defender, who can play at centre-half or full-back, is a current Scottish under-19 international and is a former captain of the Magpies' under-18 side.

"Kyle spent a period of last season at York City, where he made his debut against the Exiles at Bootham Crescent back in January.

"Kyle's initial one-month loan with the Minstermen was extended after the young defender impressed during four starts."

Manager Warren Feeney told the club website: "I think he will be a good addition for us.

"He is a very strong player, who knows this league and what you can expect at this level from the time he spent with York towards the end of last season."

"He will add competition for places, which is always healthy and he is very much a physical player, which will be a great benefit to us."

Cameron's loan deal will run until the beginning of January 2017.
