MARLON Jackson is confident that if Newport County AFC can tighten things up at the back then their potency in front of goal will bring them the results they haven’t been getting so far this season.

The Exiles have found the net in every one of their seven matches to date with 10 goals in all across three competitions.

But at the same time boss Warren Feeney has seen his side concede on 15 occasions, four of those coming against Plymouth in the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday.

“We’ve scored in every game which is brilliant,” said Jackson, a second-half substitute at Home Park. “It’s not just the strikers scoring goals, everyone is chipping in which is good.

“We’re creating chances and taking chances, we just need to keep the ball out of the net at the other end.

“If we can keep clean sheets then because we are scoring goals we’re going to win games.”

He added: “We have been unlucky once or twice but if we keep working hard we’re going to get the results.

“They are all sloppy goals that we seem to be conceding which is obviously frustrating for us and the management staff.”

County were a clear second best to Plymouth on Tuesday and while there aren’t many fans of the new-look Football League competition, Jackson says it is worthwhile for teams such as his.

“It was a disappointing result because in the first half we played really well,” said Jackson.

“We had a game plan, we stuck to it, countered them well and scored an excellent goal.

“We came out for the second half and it all seemed to change.”

He added: “We want to play the most games we can and we’ve got two extra games at least now which is good for us.

“The Premier League clubs have their under-23s playing and it’s good playing against them.

“There are opportunities for them to come on loan because they want to get first-team football.”

Meanwhile, Jackson also paid tribute to the County fans who have followed their team up and down the country during the last week.

“Going all the way up to Hartlepool is a long trip for us so it’s even longer for them,” he said.

“They are paying their money to go up there and then down to Plymouth on a Tuesday night, and I know they will be there again on Saturday.

“The fans are really good, we just want to give them the performances they deserve.”
