DAVID Harrison will hope to repeat the trick from two years ago for Glamorgan after being named as head coach for the One-Day Cup.

The 42-year-old from Panteg was in charge when the Welsh county lifted silverware for the first time in 17 years by winning the competition in 2021.

Harrison will call the shots again at Sophia Gardens in the absence of limited overs head coach Mark Alleyne and red-ball boss Matt Maynard, who are both assistant coaches for Welsh Fire in The Hundred.

“My mindset is the same as always and that is to try to win games of cricket for Glamorgan,” said the former seamer.

“We've done well in the competition for the last couple of years and I'm confident that the group of players we have can progress to the quarter-finals, but we know we've got a lot of work to do.

“The competition always provides an opportunity for young players to impress and we'll hopefully get to see that again this year.

“We'll have a good blend of experience and youth with the likes of Colin (Ingram) and Sam (Northeast), and obviously Kiran (Carlson) leading the side, and I'm hopeful that we'll have a good campaign again this year".

Former England A bowler Harrison retired in 2011 and joined the Glamorgan coaching staff while he has also been involved with England Lions.

He was in charge when Glamorgan won the One Day Cup in 2021 by beating Durham in the final at Trent Bridge while last year they missed out on qualification for the knockout stages by a point.

Glamorgan, who are without Chris Cooke and Dan Douthwaite because of The Hundred, get their campaign under way with a trip to New Road to face Worcestershire on Friday.

They head to Derbyshire on Sunday then host Durham and Warwickshire at the Gnoll in Neath on Tuesday and Thursday respectively.

Glamorgan have allowed captain David Lloyd to join Derbyshire for the tournament ahead of moving to the East Midlands next season.

The north Walian is scheduled to return for a Sophia Gardens finale in the push for promotion from Division Two of the County Championship.
