PEOPLE in Newport can help to tackle barriers to sport by dropping off pre-owned boots and trainers at donation bins across the city.

The Newport Boot Room project will allow members of the public to purchase sport footwear for a minimum donation of £5.

The funds generated from sales will go towards Newport Live’s Community Sport and Wellbeing Team who help disadvantaged families to access sporting opportunities.

Donation bins have been placed in the reception areas of all Newport Live venues, including the Active Living Centre in Bettws, Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre and Newport Stadium.

The boots and trainers can be viewed and purchased via the Newport Live Sports Development page on Facebook and collected at Newport Stadium.

The charity has said it will accept cash or card payment.

South Wales Argus:

The statement from Newport Live explains: “This initiative was born out of the desire to address the numerous barriers that hinder individuals from participating in sport and physical activity. By offering affordable footwear options, the Newport Boot Room aims to remove one of these significant barriers.

“The project also recognises that financial challenges extend beyond footwear, and thus, the funds raised will support families in various ways, including covering membership costs, providing sports kit, and facilitating transportation.”
