THIS is it. My last weekend of relative freedom before the gruelling, punishing, sadistic training with my dad Enzo begins ahead of my November 8 clash with Roy Jones Jr. Live on Setanta!

Apologies for getting the plug in, but I am in full promotional mode after a press conference yesterday in Cardiff.

It's been a while since I have done so much press and in a way it's great, the interest is there for the clash with Jones, even now, 12 weeks from fight night.

It was pleasing to first and foremost be able to confirm what I wrote in this column last week, the wrist is 100% healed, I have had the all-clear from the docs and from Monday, it is time to work my socks off.

I had a couple of days in Spain this week, attending a boxing show in Benidorm, but now is the time to get into phenomenal shape for what could be my last fight.

The only time I will stop training is for a week set aside for press commitments, I will go to New York and Los Angeles and Roy will come over here and we'll hopefully do press conferences in London and Cardiff.

Other than that, it's going to be all about the training and it's a great time to be back in the gym.

Enzo Maccarinelli has a world title shot in September and some of the other boys – including Bradley Pryce, Nathan Cleverly and the new kid on the block, little Mo Nasir, are all going to be on the undercard.

So the gym is full of the boys getting into fighting shape. Things get competitive and the banter is brilliant.

It's so different from the early days when I generally trained in solitude, we had to pay for sparring partners then and there was no sense of camaraderie.

But the boys make it a pleasure to train (although sadistic Enzo doesn't!) and the talk of the gym at the moment is about little Mo, he sparred with Enzo Maccarinelli yesterday, he's fearless!

Obviously the big difference for me this time around compared to my other fights is not having a promoter, dealing with the fight issues myself and with Roy Jones.

It's a new experience for me but so far things are going great.

Roy is a businessman and a very shrewd guy, he's upfront and that has made things easier.

None of my fans should worry that I am going to be in anyway distracted by the self-promotion.

For one thing, this fight hardly needs promoting, everyone I have spoken to is hugely excited by the prospect of going to Madison Square Garden, the venue of legends.

Only joking about it not needing promoting, it's just that everything has been worked out amicably by myself and Roy Jones and that makes it easier to keep on top of what needs doing.

We have good people around us who organise specific things and the pair of us have good relationships with HBO and Setanta, the two TV companies involved.

I also have the support of my dad Enzo and he's been great too.

Also by experiencing all this now, it gives me a chance to consider whether or not I would want to be a promoter down the line.

It's a very hard job and although I intend to get my promoters license, I wouldn't like to commit one way or another as to whether I might take it up after I retire.

On the same subject, I also WILL NOT commit as to whether this will be my last fight. It's too difficult to say at this stage. It doesn't stop people asking though!

The venue for this fight is especially exciting. My first choice was always the Millennium Stadium, but HBO were reluctant to have a primetime fight outside of the US.

They were most keen on Vegas I think, we would have made more money by going back there.

But this is for me and for my fans. You guys have done Vegas and hopefully New York is a little more affordable and somewhere new to see and experience.

For me it is about fulfilling a lifelong dream of fighting at Madison Square Garden, the Wembley Stadium of boxing.

Finally, I would like to extend a massive congratulations to Nicole Cooke for her brilliant performance in winning an Olympic gold medal.

It's been a brilliant year for Welsh sport and Nicole has worked so hard since the last Olympics, determined to get a medal.

I have seen some of the boxing, but to be honest I haven't watched as much of the Olympics yet as I would have liked.

I have seen some of the boxing, but events like equestrian and baseball don't really interest me.

I am looking forward to the athletics, hopefully Christian Malcolm can have a great run and maybe win another medal for Wales.
