IT’S been an exceptionally long and draining couple of weeks for me personally as I’ve been at the High Court in London involved in a case against my former promoter Frank Warren.

I am sure many of you will have read in the Argus how things went and as I write this we are waiting for the verdict from the judge, expected at some point next week.

Unfortunately, I can’t really talk about the case at this present time, but as always you can expect to hear my thoughts first here, hopefully as soon as next Friday.

I will kick-off this week talking about yesterday’s Steve Bunce boxing hour on Setanta Sports News, because to my surprise the main news item was me!

It was nothing to do with the court case and concerned me potentially fighting Bernard Hopkins in a rematch from our Las Vegas fight at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium.

Basically, Hopkins has said we have unfinished business and that I should give him a rematch and Golden Boy promoter Richard Schaefer says that talks are ongoing in regard to this fight happening.

I don’t know if anyone remembers, but I have retired!

I have beaten Bernard Hopkins once, it wasn’t a great fight as styles make fights and he came to hold and to spoil, rather than to ‘execute’ as his nickname suggests.

Right now I am totally happy in my decision to retire and couldn’t consider fighting Bernard because I simply don’t have the motivation.

Motivation is the key thing for me. Throughout my career I gave some of my worst displays against the worst fighters, guys that you’d never heard of and who I simply didn’t want to be in the ring with.

When you are thinking like that it’s dangerous, because you have to be 100% focused on your opponent and a few times in my career, the Sakio Bika fight sticks out as a good example, I wasn’t right, wasn’t focused enough.

I am enjoying my life at the moment and enjoying my retirement, spending more time with the boys and less time in the gym being tortured by my dad!

I can’t stop people speculating and I can’t stop people talking about whether or not I will fight again.

But I’ve said it once in this column and I am happy to do so again, don’t bet on a Joe Calzaghe comeback.

Having been back from London for a couple of days now, I was only too happy to get back into the gym yesterday and to have a training session with Enzo Maccarinelli and Bradley Pryce, my two former stablemates and two of my best friends.

I have to say I was very impressed with both, they are set for action next Saturday night in Manchester on the undercard of the Antonio Barrera versus Amir Khan bill.

Enzo Maccarinelli is in absolutely phenomenal shape and that is no surprise, he is as dedicated a trainer as I have known in my 20-plus years in the sport.

Enzo is relentless in the work he puts in – not just in our gym either, also working with the kids at his father’s gym in Bonymaen.

He is so focused on achieving all he can in 2009.

Last year he suffered with losing to Haye and then only getting one comeback fight against a no-hoper, but he’s targeting a return to the top of the cruiserweight division this year and I have little doubt he’ll do it.

Wales needs a world champion boxer and Enzo is the man to make that happen in the quickest possible time.

But it is Bradley’s fight with Matthew Hall next weekend, which I am truly excited about.

For me, this is the best fight on the whole bill, styles make fights and this is two out and out warriors getting ready to stand toe-to-toe and throw bombs. We’ve seen first hand that Hall can throw big (he beat Team Calzaghe man Kerry Hope last summer) and Bradley is a knockout puncher as well, I don’t think too much money will be laid down on this one going the distance.

Bradley has become a bit of a forgotten man for whatever reason in the past 12 months, he’s itching to get back into the ring and the exposure of being on such a big show will do him the world of good.

I just wanted to say a big thank you to anyone who came to our first Calzaghe Promotions show in Merthyr. The feedback we’ve had has been excellent and hopefully you enjoyed it as much as I did.

Huge credit goes to dad and my uncle Sergio for all their hard work and to Brian Coleman for some truly excellent match making. I would also like to thank Gary Lockett who helped with the logistics.

We also had support from the Sanigars (Chris and Jamie) in running the show and I would also personally like to thank the amazing number of former Welsh fighters who turned out to lend their support.

Finally, I did get to watch some boxing this past weekend and I was glad I did.

I tuned into Setanta to watch Juan Manuel Marquez win the WBA and WBO lightweight by knocking out Juan Diaz in Texas, a terrific fight that was as good as any I have seen in the past 12 months.

I also saw Martin Rogen – a top class person and a great success story having joined the pro ranks relatively late – producing another shock by beating Matt Skelton for his Commonwealth heavyweight title.

Rogen has now taken care of Skelton and Audley Harrison and is surely the best placed heavyweight for Britain or Ireland (other than David Haye) to force his way onto the world title scene.

He’s not a world-beater, but he hits hard, has a good chin and loads of heart, no wonder people like him so much. I wish him every success.
